Ecuador's President, Rafael Correa, inspected TP Hydropower Project

Ecuador's President, Rafael Correa, accompanied by the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy and the Minister of Coordination of Strategic Sectors, inspected the TP Hydropower Project on 6th August, 2014. This is the 3rd visit paid by the President to this project since November, 2011 and September 2012, indicating the great concern and care of the President to this project.


President Correa and his entourage inspected the dam site under concrete placing and the excavated foundation for stage - I underground powerhouse, asked in detail about the working conditions of the 60m-range ROTEC CC-200 conveyor mounted wheel crane provided for work acceleration and the overall project progress and construction plan, and expressed satisfaction to CWE's construction progress and site works. Besides, President Correa also met representatives of the local community on site to hear their opinions and demands, and pledged that the completion of TP Hydropower Project would benefit the local people.


The TP Hydropower Project is designed to be with a total installed capacity of 254.4MW and an annual average power production of 1.1 billion kWh. The civil works of this project undertaken by CWE were commenced in May 2011 and are expected to be completed by the end of 2015. Upon its completion, this project will achieve US$100 million in cost saving and reduce 557t carbon dioxide emission, when compared with a thermal power project, and provide 1500 job opportunities directly and 4000 ones indirectly for the local people, which will significantly improve the local energy structure and promote economic development in Ecuador.
