CWE signs USD 300 million hydropower project in Ghana

An EPC contract was signed on October 27, 2014 by and between CWE and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MoEP) of Ghana, represented respectively by CWE (Ghana) Manager Xie Dahu and the Minister of MoEP Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, for the Hemang hydropower project, which is USD 307 million in contract value and 42 months in construction period.


Located on the Pra River in the West Region of Ghana, the project involves construction of a hydropower plant, which has an installed capacity of 60MW (30MW*2) and an annual generating capacity of 216 million kWh. The dam will be 34m in maximum height, composing of a river-bed concrete dam section and earth-rock dam sections on both sides. The storage capacity will be about 46 million cubic meters. A substation and a 64km long 161kV transmission line will also be constructed.


The signing of this contract marks CWE's new firm step in the water and hydropower field, after its projects in respects of electrification, highway and municipal water supply in Ghana, which is of great significance to the company's in-depth development of the Ghanaian market and will help the company further consolidate its traditional market and enhance its international brand image.
