First generator of KALETA Hydroelectric Project incorporated to grid in Guinea

The first generating unit (Unit No.3) of the KALETA hydroelectric project undertaken by CWE in Guinea was officially started and connected to the power grid at the dispatch instruction given at 12:58 local time on May 28, 2015, indicating its successful beginning of commercial operation.

 

Hon. Cheick Taliby SYLLA, Minister of the Energy and Water Resources of Guinea, Hon. Mamadi CONDE, Director of Large Project Office of Guinea, the Employer’s project team and its technical service team TEF jointly witnessed the starting of the generating unit. In his speech, Hon. SYLLA said that he seemed to have seen the takeoff of Guinean economy and people’s living standards at the operation of the unit; and in spite of the long-term impact of Ebola in Guinea, Chinese friends have unceasingly helped Guinean people make their dream come true and greatly raised the friendship between China and Guinea through the KALETA hydroelectric project.

 

For always, CWE and its associated work teams in respects of design, construction, supervision, and equipment manufacture, with a highly-developed sense of responsibility and mission have conquered various difficulties to achieve this timely generation. The designed three units with a total install capacity of 240MW will achieve an average annual generating capacity of 965 million kWh to greatly alleviate the energy shortage in Guinea and invigorate the development of the country. According to the plan, the Unit No.2 and Unit No.1 are to be operated in this June and July respectively.
