Seminar on labor training and environmental protection held at Isimba HPP in Uganda

At the invitation of CWE’s Isimba Hydropower Project Management, the Commissioner for Labour and the Commissioner for Social Affairs under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) of Uganda, and the Commissioner for Environmental Affairs under the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) of Uganda jointly inspected the project and a seminar on labor training and environmental protection was held on May 22, 2015. CWE’s project department heads, construction team leaders, the Employer’s site representative, the Indian Engineer, and relevant persons from the district authorities of Kayunga and Kamuli participated the activity.


Accompanied by the project staff, the Commissioners visited the foundation pit under excavation, aggregate processing system, concrete batching plant, and auxiliary facilities. They highly appreciated CWE for complete labor appliances, orderly construction, tidy and clean temporary structure layout, and perfect sewage treatment system. Afterwards, the Commissioner for Labour and the Commissioner for Environmental Affairs attended a seminar on labor training and environmental protection laws and regulations and communicated with the Chinese staff at the project site office.


This activity not only strengthened the communication among CWE Project Management, MGLSD and MWE, but also facilitated contacts among CWE, district authorities of Kayunga and Kamuli, governmental ministries in charge of labor, environment protection, and occupational health and safety, effectively guaranteeing the project execution in respects of local labor management, occupational health and safety control, and environmental protection.
