Freeing fish at Nam Ngiep 2 reservoir in Laos

Update:2015-10-21

A fish-freeing activity was held by CWE jointly with the Government of Pasha on July 22, 2015, releasing 20,000 purchased fish fry into the reservoir of the Nam Ngiep 2 HPP in Laos.

Local residents living around the reservoir are allowed to engage in fishing and fish-farming. The fish fry released will bring them significant economic income in the coming year. In light of this, the Government of Pasha thought highly of the activity and sent the deputy county head and over 20 relevant officials to participate the activity. CWE vigorously organized the activity to protect the reservoir ecology and perform the company’s social responsibility.

At 9:30 a.m., a short, brief ceremony was held at the upstream cofferdam of the main dam. The deputy county head of Pasha delivered a speech and praised CWE for its performance of corporate social responsibility. He also spoke highly of the friendship between the county government and CWE and welcomed more Chinese investment. At the end of the event, he issued a certificate of commendation on behalf of the Government to CWE’s Nam Ngiep 2 Project Management and affirmed the significance of this activity and the investment philosophy held by CWE. Qi Xuechun, CWE’s project manager, expressed appreciation for the supports and assistance that the local government and residents provided over the past four years since commencement of the project, and pledged to maintain such friendly relationship.

Despite the unexpected rain during the activity, everybody carried the fish fry to the waterside for freeing as scheduled. The fish swam away happily to the vast reservoir and to the life of the residents. The event came to a successful conclusion in the rain.
