Isimba HPP passes HSE Checking by Ugandan Government

Update:2015-10-30

The Isimba Hydropower Project has passed the 3-day comprehensive HSE checking conducted by the Ugandan government from September 15 to 17, 2015.

The Ugandan governmental workgroup was composed of more than 30 experts organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. By means of report-listening, on-site investigation, data-reviewing, and inquiry, the workgroup learned about the project construction and checked in particular the dam foundation pit, powder magazine, temporary garbage storage, quarries, diesel powerhouse, and wastewater treatment pool. It was unanimously concluded that CWE achieved remarkable results in the HSE work of the Isimba Project during its execution, setting a good international image for itself.

CWE has always been devoting itself to HSE work during the construction of the Isimba project, setting up the idea of “all participation in standardized construction to be environmentally-friendly” through systematized management practice. Various approvals and permits of the project were obtained and the construction was conducted abiding by these standards to avoid pollution to environment. A special team was established for safe construction and environmental protection, of which the project manager was designated as the team leader and special personnel were assigned. Local and Chinese HSE engineers were employed to be in charge of routine protection of water and environment, including daily measurement of sewage and monthly test of water quality. The camp and construction area were unifiedly planned and constructed to be environmentally-friendly. A large scale wastewater treatment system was built for treatment and discharge of all living sewage from the camp according to specifications. A plan for garbage management was made, and classified garbage points were built. The construction sewage was dealt with strictly according to relevant approvals and permits to ensure permissible discharge. During the project construction, effective measures were taken to ensure the safety of the staff and to prevent water/soil erosion or pollution to air/soil.
