Groundbreaking ceremony held for Souapiti Hydroelectric Project in Guinea

A grand groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Souapiti Hydroelectric Project by Guinean Government on December 22, 2015. It was attended by the Guinean President Alpha Conde, high-ranking government officials of the country, diplomatic envoys including Chinese Ambassador to Guinea Bian Jianqiang, CWE Vice President and Chief Engineer Chen Xianming.


Chen, on behalf of CWE under CTG, extended warm congratulations on the ceremony and solemnly expressed CWE’s confidence and determination of completing the project on time with sound quality.


Both H.E. Conde and Ambassador Bian urged Chinese and Guinean parties involved to support the project implementation for win-win cooperation and common prosperity of the two countries to push bilateral relations to a new level.


Located on the Konkoure River, about 6km upstream from Kaleta hydropower station, the Souapiti hydropower station (450MW) will form the second of the cascade and its dam will be 1148m long and 116m in maximum height. Once completed, this project will further relieve the power shortage in Guinea and improve the operation efficiency of the Kaleta project during the drought season, playing a strategic role in promotion of the economy and people’s livelihood in Guinea.


Sun Xiaoyun and Zhang Rujun among others from CWE’s International Business Dept.2 also attended the ceremony.
