CWE signs USD 1.38 billion worth Souapiti Hydroelectric Project in Guinea

Update:2016-01-22

CWE signed the EPC contract with Guinean Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Large Project Office, Public Contract Supervision Office, and Ministry of Finance to undertake the Souapiti Hydroelectric Project in the country. The project has a total contract value of USD 1.38 billion and is expected to be completed in 58 months.

With the normal pool level of 210m, dam crest elevation of 215.5m, maximum height of RCC dam of 116.5m, and dam axis length of 1148m, the Souapiti project is designed with a total installed capacity of 450MW and an average annual output of 1.9 billion kWh.

The project is the second mega hydropower project undertaken by CWE in the country and is deemed as the Three Gorges Project in Guinea. Located in 135km from Guinea capital city Conakry, and 6km upstream of the completed Kaleta Hydroelectric Project, Souapiti is the second hydropower cascade on the Konkoure River.

Upon completion, the project will meet power demands in Guinea and send surplus power to Gambia, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali and other neighboring countries. Its completion will utterly alleviate the power shortage in the country and turn it into a power exporter in West Africa.

CWE will team up with Guinean Government to develop the project in the mode of PPP. Its execution will help expedite the transformation of the company and give an impetus to CTG’s international strategy.
