Update:2016-03-21

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa attended the Completion Ceremony of the Canar Project on January 12, 2016, which drew wide attention from the country and was covered by 30 media and presented by 3000 exhilarated local residents.

At 10 a.m. local time, His Excellency walked to the overflow bridge and climbed to the crest of flood diversion sluice in company with the Minister of Strategic Planning Poveda, the Minister of Water Resources Carlos, the Governor of Guayas Province Julio, as well as the General Manager of Ecuadorian Water Company Sanchez, and CWE’s project manager Zhang Yixin. With His Excellency’s consent, his beloved daughter pressed the button on the sluice. As the gate slowly fell, the water flow of the Canar River ran through the overflow weir into the flood diversion canal and finally rolled into the sea. After witnessing this moment, His Excellency solemnly declared to the public the successful completion of the Canar Project and that the flood once ravaging the region was gone for good.

During the Ceremony, the Minister of Water Resources Carlos took stock of the project construction process and highlighted to the public the great contribution made by all parties involved.

The President retrospect the dark memories of Ecuadorian people given by floods and the flood disaster in neighboring countries triggered by El Nino, and indicated that the completion of the project marked the end of floods in the region and the beginning of well-off life and stable agricultural production for locals. In his address, his Excellency mentioned for several times his appreciation to CTG, CWE and the Canar Project Management.

The timely completion of the project buttressed his Excellency’s and the public recognition of CWE for its firstrate management capabilities and strong sense of social responsibilities, which unfolded a better future of more opportunities for CWE in Ecuador

During the execution of the project, of which the total contract value is approximately USD 400 million, CWE encountered various difficulties since its commencement in 2013, such as slow land acquisition, abnormal weather, delayed payment, which resulted in a turnover of only one third of the contract value in the previous two years. Nevertheless, CWE’s team braved all the unfavorable conditions and cooperated with all parties involved to achieve peak performance in 2015, in which a new turnover record over USD 100 million within 100 days was created and a monthly turnover of approximately USD 40 million was obtained in November. Eventually, the Lot Canar was completed as scheduled while the Lot Naranjal went into operation for flood control in advance.
