CWE inks new project in Laos

At 5 p.m., January 25, the signing ceremony of PDA for the Nam Kong 1 Hydroelectric Project between CWE and its Laos counterpart was held in the hall of the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Laos. Liu Limin, Deputy General Manager of International Business Department 3 of CWE, and the Vice Minister of Planning and Investment of Laos Bounthavy Sisouphanthong signed on the agreement on behalf of the two parties.

The Nam Kong 1 Hydroelectric Project is on the Nam Kong River, a tributary of Mekong River, in Attapu Province in southern Laos with a designed installed capacity of 160MW and a total annual output of 649 million kWh. Upon completion, expectedly by 2020, the project will go a long way in alleviating the power shortage in Attapu Province and neighboring regions, which is of great social and economic significance.

As the third BOOT investment project of CWE in Laos following Nam Lik 1-2 Hydropower Project and Nam Neip 2 Hydropower Project, the implementation of the Nam Kong 1 Hydroelectric Project will help reinforce CWE’s operation in Laos and lay a solid foundation for the realization of CTG and CWE’s development strategy in the country. For now, negotiations on CA and PPA are underway.
