Chinese volunteer artists bring performance to Isimba in Uganda

Update:2016-01-29

A group of Chinese volunteer artists arrived at the Isimba Hydropower Project in Uganda and put on a glamorous performance in the evening on January 28, 2016, catapulting the whole site into jubilant atmosphere. The event was jointly sponsored by China Three Gorges Group (CTG) and China Association of Volunteer Artists and organized by CWE. Many eminent Chinese artists celebrated the upcoming Chinese New Year on site with about one thousand constructors of different nationalities and colors.

CTG initiated this event in the run-up to the Spring Festival to send best wishes and greetings to CTG staff who were still working on site during the festival. By this artistic performance, the staff was encouraged to work hard and live by hearts so as to effectively improve production conditions and people’s livelihood in “belt and road” countries and contribute more for the friendships between the peoples.

Babahatu, a Ugandan truck driver, told the reporters after watching the performance that he was fascinated by this eye-opening performance and got to know more about Chinese culture; and that the Sichuan Opera Face-changing and Chinese magic in particular amazed him as they demonstrated Chinese wisdom and splendidness of Chinese art. Li Hongxu, a Chinese engineer, also said that he had never watched a performance like this before in all his six years at abroad and he felt warm and proud as a CTG/CWE employee.

The Isimba Hydropower Project, on the White Nile about 90km at northeast to the capital Kampala, has a total installed capacity of 183MW, a contract value of USD 568 million and a construction period of 40 months. Its implementation will greatly ease the severe power shortages in Uganda, improve the country’s economy, and promote exports of Chinese mechanical and electrical products.
