State Minister inspects El Multaga-New Amri Pump Station Rehabilitation Project in Sudan
Hon. Khidir M Gasm Elseed，the Sudanese State Minister of the Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity, inspected the El Multaga-New Amri Pump Station Rehabilitation undertaken by CWE on December 6, 2016. The minister was accompanied by the Director of Social Affairs Division under the ministry, officials from the Ministry and the local government, representatives of the Employer, the Engineer and CWE the Contractor.
The El Multaga Agriculture Scheme and the New Amri Agriculture Scheme were built by CWE respectively in 2002 and 2004 as livelihood projects implemented by the Sudanese government to resettle the affected residents at the Merowe dam area. Over the past decade, these two agricultural irrigation projects have played an important role in ensuring local agricultural production, raising living standards and promoting stability in the region. However, in the absence of proper maintenance, four stations were out of order and broken to varying degrees, which seriously threatened local production and portable water security. The Sudanese government therefore pay high attention and committed the rehabilitation and upgrading project of the stations to CWE so as to make the stations play their proper functions.
The minister’s site inspection was warmly welcomed by the locals. Upon his excellency’s arrival at the project site on 9 a.m., many local people have long since gathered there. The minister checked the main equipment and construction status, listened to reports made by the Employer, the Engineer and the Contractor, and had a friendly conversation with the local people.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the project and said that the project was an important local livelihood project and hoped that the Employer, Engineer and Contractor would continue to work together and complete the project as soon as possible so as to make the ardent expectations of the local people come true early. The minister also showed willingness to assist the Contractor to solve any problems encountered during the construction process. CWE pledged to complete the project as soon as possible and contribute to the local people's livelihood and social development.
