The “Little Orange Tree Buds” Scholarship Program is one of the key initiatives of the Rucalhue Hydropower Station Project in Chile in fulfilling its social responsibilities and deepening community co-construction. The name of this public welfare activity is derived from the native forest plant surrounding the project site—the little orange tree. As a typical native tree species in Chile, the little orange tree has been a focus of protection by the project team during the construction of the hydropower station. The scholarship program, named after it, embodies the project’s vision of supporting community teenagers in their academic pursuits, nurturing their growth, and ultimately helping them achieve fruitful outcomes.
Since its launch in 2021, the “Little Orange Tree Buds” Scholarship Program has been providing continuous educational support to teenagers in the communities surrounding the project. In 2025, a total of 210 students from 8 neighboring communities benefited from the program, covering primary, secondary, and university education. Moving forward, by upholding the philosophy of “Growing Together with the Community”, the project will remain attentive to the developmental needs of community teenagers, and collaborate with local government and communities to consolidate the foundation of educational equity and youth development. These efforts will enable more “buds” of the community to flourish in the sunlight and thrive robustly.
