On the eve of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Hua Chunying, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, shared an image on the social platform X (formerly known as “Twitter”). The image featured a 100-pound Sudanese note depicting three major projects built by CWE in Sudan: the Merowe Dam, the Roseires Dam Heightening Project, and the Dam Complex of Upper Atbara Project . Hua Chunying described these images as “China-Africa Friendship on Banknotes”. The three projects, previously highlighted in a 2022 signed article by President Xi Jinping as “landmarks of China-Arab friendship”, collectively account for about 95% of Sudan’s total hydropower capacity and over 60% of the country’s total power generation capacity, providing strong support for Sudan’s economic development and social stability.
Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, recently stated at a regular press conference, “China has built a large number of clean energy projects in Africa, helping more and more African countries realize their dreams of green and low-carbon development. Specifically, the Garissa Solar Power Station in Kenya, constructed by Chinese enterprises, reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 64,000 tons annually. Additionally, the Kaleta Hydropower Station in Guinea has greatly alleviated local electricity shortages.” The Kaleta Hydropower Station constructed by CWE was specifically mentioned.

Xinhua News Agency has published a feature article titled “If I Love You, I Will Stamp You on Banknote: The Fruits of China-Africa Cooperation Appear on African Currency.” This piece was subsequently shared across major media platforms, including Xinhua’s WeChat official account and People’s Daily. The Kaleta Hydropower Station in Guinea was highlighted again in the “Hydropower Projects Light Up Thousands of Homes” section, appearing on the country’s largest denomination, the 20,000 Guinean franc. The Kaleta Hydropower Station has been an essential public project for Guinea, resolving long-standing power shortages in the capital, Conakry, and benefiting 11 surrounding provinces. In 2019, the station was commemorated on a postage stamp issued by Guinea’s Postal Service to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between China and Guinea.

Since their completion, both fitness parks have been widely embraced by various sectors of the Senegalese government and the general public, playing a significant role in boosting the development of sports and improving quality of life in Dakar and Kaolack cities. The Dakar Seaside Fitness Park has been affectionately dubbed the “China-Senegal Friendship Park” by locals, significantly bolstering Sino-Senegalese friendship and establishing a positive corporate image for CWE.

“China and Africa” and “China Trade News”, two prominent journals, have launched bilingual special editions that showcase CWE’s current hydropower projects in Guinea—the Kaleta Hydropower Station and the Souapiti Hydropower Station. The two projects are among the most critical power sources in Guinea, with a combined installed capacity of 690 megawatts, accounting for over 50% of the nation’s total installed capacity and approximately 80% of its total electricity production. Both projects have received the prestigious “Chinese Construction Engineering Luban Prize” for their excellence. The special edition from “China Trade News” will be distributed and promoted at the Eighth Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs as part of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and this high-profile platform will be leveraged to enhance CWE’s competitiveness and influence internationally.
