Recently, the Nam Lik 1-2 Hydropower Station in Laos (hereinafter referred to as the “hydropower station”) held a graduation ceremony for five interns from the Lao Institute of Technology and organized a Qingming festival cultural event. The event was participated by nearly 20 people including teachers and students from Lao Institute of Technology as well as Chinese and Lao employees from the hydropower station.
The hydropower station has developed a “Hydropower Industry Internship Base for Lao Universities” in collaboration with the Laos Institute of Technology. The graduating interns represent the second cohort of interns since the establishment of the base. By participating in the full operational and maintenance cycle of the hydropower station, the interns have bridged theory with practice, achieving significant growth in their professional skills. At the graduation ceremony, the interns vividly shared their internship experiences and skills gained. On behalf the intern cohort, Pike, a representative of the five interns, sincerely stated that the internship not only gave him an in-depth understanding of the hydropower industry but also provided invaluable hands-on experience. The instructors of the hydropower station affirmed the interns’ achievements from multiple aspects while also identifying areas for improvement and offering constructive suggestions. Mr. Tang Hongbin, Manager of the hydropower station remarked that the intern cohort has demonstrated strong professional competence and learning ability, injecting fresh vitality into the work of the hydropower station. Subsequently, the hydropower station presented the interns with certificates of completion, marking the successful conclusion of their two-month internship.

The ceremony took place on the eve of Qingming Festival. Therefore, the hydropower station organized special cultural activities, including an introduction to the traditional Chinese festival and hands-on making of qingtuan (green rice dumplings). Through a documentary on the culture of Qingming Festival, the employees, teachers and students of Laos gained deeper insight into the origin, evolution, customs, and cultural connotations of this festival. During the qingtuan-making session, under the guidance of a Chinese chef, all participants worked in groups to make and taste qingtuan together, experiencing the charm of traditional Chinese food. Kangsai, an intern, excitedly shared that making traditional Chinese food by hand was an unforgettable experience, which gave him a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

The hydropower station has always attached great importance to the development of local talents, and actively promoted Chinese traditional culture while fulfilling its responsibilities. In the future, the hydropower station will further strengthen cooperation with local universities to cultivate more professional and technical personnel, support the development of local education, and serve as a cultural exchange platform to deepen the friendship between two nations.
