Pak Phanang Diversion Dam and Appurtenant Buildings Project is one of the largest projects in the development series of the Pak Phanang basin in Thailand, controlling the drainage basin area of 3,040km², and after completion, the Project can effectively prevent seawater intrusion and improve the upstream soil conditions.

Dike and Dam Construction

After the completion of the Project, the overall dam length of the reservoir increases to 3km and the reservoir capacity increases by about 50 million m³. It guarantees the water supply for production and domestic life of the people of Penang.

Water Supply and Irrigation

After the completion of the Project in the 1990s, it has provided a solid guarantee for the water supply of the people of Penang and serves as a good example of cooperation between China and Malaysia.

After the completion of the Angat Water Utilization and Aqueduct Improvement Project (also known as the “Water Supply Project for Greater Manila”), it has effectively alleviated water scarcity for nearly 15 million populations in Greater Manila, the capital of the Philippines and its surrounding regions. It is regarded as a model project of economic and trade cooperation between China and the Philippines.

The Project adopted full-section hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) for construction and pioneered the use of the “cut-and-cover launching” technique, which significantly saves on construction time. After completion, it will guarantee the daily water use of the residents of Manila.
